EnergyBreakthrough is more than just a race! It is also not a test of construction skills. Testing athletic ability nor welding ability isn't the goal. Rather it is a journey that integrates many different skills, abilities and areas of knowledge. In this it is a great way to learn how to work in the real world. As part of the EnergyBreakthrough journey participants will have to learn some Maths and Physics and apply this within the context of a managed project. The project management and discipline involved is all part of the learning experience. They may also have to approach sponsors and recruit community support. Tasks that will test presentation skills and provide valuable experience for later life. Balancing a budget will no doubt be one of the trickier tasks the team will have to handle!

EnergyBreakthrough is also not about winning. The race and the challenges involved are a highlight but only in that they function to inspire participation. Being there and being part of it is what will become a treasured memory for participants. Taking on the journey and finishing is the BIG thing! HUGE!

So, what do you have to do to be part of EB?

In simple outline:

  • Choose a category.

  • Form a team that fits your category.

  • Construct or modify a human powered vehicle for one of the relevant categories.

  • Make a team presentation that tells the story of your entry.

  • Get your team along to the EnergyBreakthrough!
